Chateau Cana

Chateau Cana is the story of a man who converted a forgotten land into a vineyard at the very heart of Mount Lebanon, in a small village called Ras El Harf. After the Lebanese civil war, many families left the region and their lands. Fadi Gerges, a dentist and an avid Human Rights activist with a passion for wine began a project to turn the abandoned lands into vineyards and encourage the families of around 30 villages to return to their homes. Fadi picked the grapes and shared his experience with the families raising their awareness of vine planting and picking. As time went by, Fadi became a winemaker, accumulating over 18 years of expertise in the field. In 2018, this family owned winery welcomed the 3rd generation on board. Both the old and the new generation are working hand in hand to preserve the legacy while growing and expanding by embarking on new journeys toether.
Chateau Cana benefits from an exceptional location in the heart of a peaceful pine valley, Ras el Harf. Location 900 meters above sea level, the vineyard stretches over ancient terraced slopes and enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year.
The vineyard is planted with about 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Sabbaghieh and 10% Chardonnay. Cabernet Sauvignon is the best grape variety of the vineyard; it is perfectly at home in the poor gravely hilltop soil and clay subsoil. These conditions give the wine colour and tannic structure. The Sabbaghieh is a local type of grape characterized by red fruit aromas of cherries, raspberries and strawberries; it has the potential to delelop vegetal and 'barnyard' aromas that can contribute to the complexity of the wine. The Chardonnay plays a regulation role tempering the strength of the dominant Cabernet Sauvignon.
